14.03.2017

Between 4 April and 31 May 2017, the Romanian National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), through its regional divisions of Bucharest, Cluj, Iasi and Timis, is organising examination sessions for those who wish to obtain radio amateur and, respectively, radio operator’s certificates in the land mobile service.

The radio amateur certificate
The examinations for the radio amateur certificates will be held on 8 April 2017 in Cluj, 21 April 2017 in Iasi, 26 April 2017 in Timisoara and, respectively, on 25 and 26 April 2017 in Bucharest. Further details regarding the radio amateur examinations, as well as other information on the rules, list of topics, international regulations, sanctions and forms are available, in Romanian, here, on the ANCOM website.
Radio amateurism is mainly a hobby, with yet a profound competitive side on both local and international levels. Furthermore, this activity enables radio amateurs to develop abilities in using the radiocommunication stations, to acquire in-depth knowledge on the phenomenon of radio propagation in various frequency bands, or to manufacture and test radiocommunication equipment. Also, radio amateurs can sometimes take part, together with the relevant public institutions, in ensuring radiocommunications under emergency situations.
In Romania, ANCOM has issued 3,649 radio amateur certificates so far.
The radio operator’s certificate
The examination sessions for the certificates of radio operator in the land mobile service are scheduled as follows: on 4 and 5 April 2017 in Bucharest, on 5 May 2017 in Iasi, on 10 and 11 May 2017 in Timisoara and on 31 May 2017 in Cluj. Further details are available, in Romanian, here, on the ANCOM website section dedicated to the operating personnel of the radiocommunication stations.
In order to operate radiocommunication stations, the employees of companies that own or operate land mobile radiocommunication networks must hold a radio operator’s certificate. Such companies usually operate in domains such as: industry, utility production, transport and distribution at a national level, transportation, constructions and public works, agriculture, forestry, security and protection of privacy, public protection, public health, community management services etc.
At present, there are 8,331 valid operator’s certificates for the radiocommunication stations in the land mobile service in Romania.
