Black Friday Is Coming – Are You Ready to Choose a Suitable Internet or Telephony Offer?

19.11.2015

We are on the eve of a special period, in which the providers of electronic communications services launch promotional offers, therefore ANCOM advises users to inform themselves before considering telephony or internet offers and to choose the offer that best fits their communication needs.
Whether it is a smartphone or a tablet with a substantial reduction, before subscribing to telephone or internet services, the users should check the following:
  • coverage, for mobile telephony and Internet – which can be found directly from a provider’s stores / payment desks, or accessing the coverage maps available on its website. The maps indicate outdoor coverage and provide indicative, not guaranteed values. Users can also check the national average speed of the Internet service or the average speed per locality on www.netograf.ro - see the Statistics section;
  • if the service is available in their area, for fixed telephony and Internet;
  • tariffs: amount of a monthly subscription and its availability for a service only or a service package, the fee for using / renting additional equipment (if applicable), international call tariffs;
  • amount of minutes / SMS / traffic included in the subscription, networks where they can be used, order of consumption and charges applied after reaching the respective limit;
  • minimum contract period;
  • early contract termination fees;
  • service installation/activation term;
  • how faults can be announced and fault remedy term;
  • compensations a user is entitled to if his/her provider fails to meet contractual clauses;
  • entitled to compensation if you fail to meet contractual supplier;
  • whether the telephone terminal purchased along with the service subscription is locked on the network;
  • minimum charging unit for Internet traffic (e.g. 1 KB, 10 KB, 1 MB, etc.);
  • whether - and under what conditions - a provider can block access to or charge additional charges for using certain applications (VoIP, file sharing, etc.);
  • terms for service suspending or for subsequent reconnection and applicable fees.
