The Communications Infrastructure - A Topical Issue in Europe

On 6 November 2013, the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) organises its annual international conference, under the heading “ The Communications Infrastructure - A Topical Issue in Europe”, at Radisson Blu Hotel in Bucharest, Romania.

High-speed broadband infrastructure represents the backbone for telecommunications services and is considered the cornerstone of the European digital single market. To support the development of this infrastructure in the context of the issues raised by the multitude of rules and administrative practices of national and regional authorities, the European Commission proposed a regulation project to reduce costs for the installation of high speed electronic communications networks. The Commission proposal focuses on defining specific rights and obligations, aiming to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of high speed electronic communications infrastructure installation by extrapolating the best practices of various Member States.

This edition of the annual international conference organised by ANCOM aims at bringing together regulators, representatives of the local public authorities both from Romania and from abroad, representatives of the European associations in the field of electronic communications and of the European communications operators, in an attempt at drawing an outline of the European state-of-play of the high-speed broadband infrastructure, and at identifying the most adequate ways of achieving the objectives of the European Commission’s proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on measures to reduce the cost of deploying high-speed electronic communications networks.
