ANCOM investigates the incident that affected Telekom network

The National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications requested and received from Telekom Romania Mobile Communications a notification on the incident with significant impact that affected the operator's network yesterday. Additional information and documents are to be sent for the regulator to analyse the situation and apply corresponding measures.


Yesterday’s incident is among the ones with the largest magnitude in its category and will be analysed with celerity.


According to the regulations in force, the providers of electronic communications networks and services are required to take appropriate technical and organizational measures to adequately manage the security risks of electronic communications networks and services, especially in order to prevent and limit the impact of security incidents on users and interconnected networks. They are also required to take all necessary measures for ensuring the integrity of their own networks so they should be able to provide services uninterruptedly through these networks.


Incidents affecting more than 5,000 connections for at least 60 minutes are incidents with significant impact that may directly or indirectly affect or threaten the security and integrity of electronic communications networks and services at a national or European level.


ANCOM's preliminary data show that more than 300 incidents with a significant impact on the security and integrity of electronic communications networks and services occurred in 2017, affecting a total of about 10 million connections.
