Statistics on the quality of the internet access service in Romania generated by Netograf.ro– ANCOM’s application for measuring the internet service quality – reveal that Romanians benefited from average actual speeds of 109 Mbps countrywide, for data download over fixed internet connections, with an average speed of 180 Mbps on wired connections, respectively of 60 Mbps on wireless connections, in the first half of 2017.
Through Netograf.ro, ANCOM draws up statistics on the quality of the fixed and mobile internet access service in Romania, considering also the average download speeds, as experienced by the users that measure their speed by means of this application.
Evolution of fixed and mobile download speeds
Tests performed on www.netograf.roshow that in the first half of 2017, average fixed data download speeds increased by approximately 45% compared to the first quarter of the previous year - from 75.07 Mbps to 109.1 Mbps -, whereas average mobile data download speed dropped by 28%, from 27.72 Mbps to 19.99 Mbps, in the context of the growing number of tests performed by the users in this segment and of the increasing data traffic on mobile networks.

How Netograf.ro statistics are generated
Netograf.ro generated the statistics regarding H 1 2017 fixed and mobile internet based on approximately 135,000 valid tests conducted by internet users in Romania.
ANCOM recommends the users intending to test their fixed connections to use wired terminal equipment. The average speeds of wireless connections are approximately 3 times lower than those of wired ones, given the limited transmission capacity of wireless routers (which usually ensure nominal speeds of maximum 300 Mbps). Furthermore, the speed of Wi-Fi transmissions is negatively influenced by the distance from the wireless router/transmitter and by existing obstacles between the terminal and the transmitter. Further details on generating Netograf statistics are available, in Romanian, here.
About Netograf.ro
Netograf.rois the application for monitoring and assessing the quality of the internet access service developed by ANCOM in order to offer the Romanian users an instrument which is independent (does not depend on the servers made available by the providers and/or their location), objective (presents the internet access service quality as experienced by the end-users, since it is measured using a single reference point for all the users of internet access services in Romania) and free of charge.Â
