Legislation

In 2002, the Ministry of Communications and Information promoted and adopted a legislative and institutional framework that was harmonised with the requirements of the European Community legislation in the electronic communications sector, with a view to enhance the transition of the Romanian market from monopoly to effective competition.

Romania was the first country in Europe to transpose in the national legislation the provisions of the New Regulatory Framework in the sector of electronic communications networks and services, as adopted by the European Union in 2002.

The role of ANCOM focuses on implementing the primary legislation by means of the ANCOM President’s Decisions.
