Public consultation on amateur radio for emergency situations

21.09.2017

Today, 21 September 2017, ANCOM has launched a public consultation on amateur radio for emergency situations, aimed at collecting the views of all interested parties with respect to the necessary regulations and procedure for managing the radio spectrum required for the operation of the amateur service dedicated to the provision of communications in emergency situations.

The radioamateur community and entities with responsibilities in emergency situations are invited to answer a questionnaire published on the Authority’s website, here, regarding the involvement of the amateur service in emergency situations, the organization structure of a network for amateur radiocommunications in emergency situations, defining a special regulation for the management of the radio spectrum required for amateur radio activities dedicated to the provision of communications in emergency situations and the opportunity of identifying special amateur radio channels exclusively for communications in emergency situations.

The opinions and intentions expressed on the occasion of this consultation will be used for grounding ANCOM’s strategy for supporting amateur radio activities dedicated to ensuring communications in emergency situations.

At international level, regulatory authorities have initiated and allowed the development of national networks of amateur radio for emergency situations, in countries such as: United Kingdom, United States of America, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Ireland, Austria, Australia, Canada, Spain and Russia.

Amateur Radio is mainly a hobby, and competitions are organised on both local and international levels. Furthermore, radio amateurism allows to develop one’s abilities in using radiocommunications stations, to acquire in-depth knowledge on the phenomenon of radio propagation in various frequency bands or to manufacture and test radiocommunications equipment. So far, ANCOM has authorised 3,448 radio amateurs in Romania.

The interested persons are invited to read and answer the questionnaire available here, by 20.11.2017, to the ANCOM headquarters (2 Delea Noua Street, Bucharest 3), or directly to the ANCOM Registry Office. Comments may also be sent by fax to +40.372.845.402 or by e-mail to consultare@ancom.org.ro.
