Lost/stolen handset

In order to avoid incurring additional costs in case you lose your mobile telephone or it has been stolen, take a few precautions:

·         Do not use the preset PIN code! Personalize it and do not disclose it to anyone!
·         If your handset settings allow, set a password for the screen, too.
·         If you have a smartphone, install a terminal tracking application, depending on the operation system, for example: Apple’s Find My iPhone, BlackBerry Protect for Blackberry terminals, the Android Device Manager (with the accompanying Google account) or Find My Phone for Windows Phone, if a Microsoft account has been configured.
·         Back up your contacts or other important data on a regular basis, on another device or online. Your provider may offer such a service or an application that can do this for you. As well, there are applications that ensure remote access to the device, by which you can delete the information stored in the telephone set (such as pictures, contacts etc.).
·         Keep the telephone purchase documents – they contain the device model and IMEI serial number and also prove that you are the owner.
* the IMEI serial number (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique identification code consisting of 15 digits you can check by keying *#06# into your handset or by looking behind your phone battery.
·         You can also choose to insure your telephone. Certain insurance policies cover the situations of the insured telephone theft.
Have you lost your telephone? Has your telephone been stolen?

1.   Address your telephony operator as soon as possible, asking for the temporary suspension of the subscription or of the prepay card. Thus, no calls could be initiated from your number, no SMS sent and no data transfers performed, but you will be able to receive calls and SMS.

In order to request suspension, you must:
-  be the holder of the subscription contract or the company representative in relationship with the telephony operator;
- know certain data on the card number, existing credit, date of the latest top-up, called numbers  etc., in case you are a prepay card user.

2.   If you luckily recover your telephone and card soon enough, you may request the card reconnection (the same identification data as above).

3.  Go to one of your telephony provider’s shops and ask for a replacement of the lost card. You will get a card with the same number, but you may also be required to pay a card replacement fee.

4.  Check your contract for provisions regarding your subscription payment for the period when the service has been suspended, respectively whether the active credit/extra-options are available on the new card.

5.    In case of theft, submit a complaint to the police station where the deed occurred. It is highly recommendable that you provide the purchase documents containing the IMEI serial number of your handset.
