Spamming

Spamming

”Spamming” is the word for the massive and sometimes repeated sending of unrequested electronic messages, most of them in commercial or advertising purposes. The term ”spam” does not mean only unrequested commercial messages (commercial spam); it also applies to various electronic communications – some of which being online fraud attempts and carrying serious implications (e.g. revealing personal data, bank account numbers, identification codes etc.)  Generally, the sender of such unrequested messages hides its real identity. Although spamming is usually associated with sending messages via e-mail, this label may be applied also to chat rooms or to pop-up messages.
According to the legislation in force, one cannot send commercial messages by e-mail unless the receiver has given his/her consent thereon. Moreover, if you have accepted to receive such messages on a regular basis, you must also be offered the possibility to unsubscribe.

About what, how and where you can complain

If you receive commercial services on your e-mail without your prior agreement, you can send a complaint to the National Authority for the Surveillance of Personal Data Protection. For further information regarding the terms for sending a complaint to this institution, go to www.dataprotection.ro, section Compaints and petitions.
